TOM WISHON 770CFE Irons (RH & LH)
For the golfer who wants to restore lost distance with the irons, for the golfer who needs to hit the ball higher, and the golfer who needs better off-center hit performance. Typical Handicap Range 9 to 24.
Features:
- Model 770CFE (Computer Face Engineered) irons represent the first set of irons designed with a ultra-thin, forged steel, CNC machined, variable thickness face design.
- The 770CFE irons are designed with a variable thickness forged face to offer golfers a higher ball-speed-to-swing speed ratio than is possible with a conventional thick face iron design, but also to offer golfers a much better off-center hit forgiveness because of the variable thickness face design.
- Because irons increase in loft progressively through the set, the actual force of deflection of the face will decrease as loft increases. To help maximize the amount of face deflection as loft increases in the irons, the forged variable thickness face design changes in steel alloy composition and thickness. The #3 and 4 iron faces are forged from Carpenter 455 high strength steel, designed with a variable thickness of 2.4mm/1.9mm. The #5, 6, and 7 iron faces are forged from 17-7 stainless steel and machined to a variable thickness of 2.5mm/2.0mm. The #8 through wedge faces are forged from soft 304 stainless and machined to a variable thickness of 2.6mm/2.2mm.
- In addition, as loft increases in a set of irons, the actual position of impact on the face will change. To accommodate this natural tendency in iron impact position, the thicker center section of the faces changes in position on each 770CFE iron through the set.
- The 770CFE irons are individually computer modeled for face thickness dimension, face thickness position, and face material for each iron in the set to offer the best individual performance possible in a full set of irons.
- All 770CFE faces are CNC machined after forging to ensure precision in the face design. The CNC machining marks can be seen on the back of each face.
- The body of each 770CFE iron is designed to maximize the area of the face available for face deflection, as well as to move as much of the weight of each head further back from the face and shaft centerline to assist in launch angle.
- The sole design of the 770CFE is designed to keep a large amount of mass low, but by beveling the back edge of the sole the sole width is not so wide to ensure proper sole playability from all types of turf and lie conditions.
- 770CFE irons are finished in a bright satin polish finish, with all faces CNC machined for precision dimensional specifications.
- LH are availabe from 4 iron to PW only (stand alone LH Wishon PCF wedges available in 52*AW and 56*SW).
Awards:
- 770CFE irons were awarded the Golf Tips Magazine's Top Concept Tech Award for 2005.
- Golf Tip magazine's Comment: "One of the more intriguing iron sets is the 770CFE by Tom Wishon, which represents the first iron to feature a forged, variable-thickness face. The variable face thickness provides a higher ball speed-to-swing ratio and greater forgiveness. Also, the face is constructed of three different steel strengths in an attempt to maximize face deflection, which typically decreases as loft increases. For the layman in all of us, the 770CFE means more distance, more forgiveness and a more consistent trajectory from iron to iron."
- 770CFE irons also received the Golf Digest Hot List 2005 award for the Best Iron from a New Company...
Golf Digest's Comment: "I could become infatuated with this club. Everything felt sweet off the clubface."
E. Michael Johnson, Golf Digest, Equipment Panel.

Email me at bobsailergolf@shaw.ca and request "golf info" in the subject line and I will return your email with interesting golf links regarding what you should know before investing in golf clubs.
Ask Yourself: Are all golfers the same size, the same strength, posess the same athletic ability, or have the same swing speed and tempo? If you have ever observed golfers on a driving range, you know the answer is NO! Because we are all unique regarding our size, strength, athletic ability and swing characteristics, preassembled clubs built to one standard set of specifications (regarding length, lie, loft, total weight, swing weight/MOI, wood face angle, shaft flex, shaft weight, shaft bend profile, grip size, set make-up, etc) will very likely not allow you to play your best golf. You see, in other sports where we hit a ball with a stick, like tennis or baseball, only 1 stick is needed. Therefore, it is very easy and an absolute must for these manufacturers to cutomize these sticks to the different size, strength, and athletic abilities of their consumers. Because you need 14 sticks in golf, they can't be offered in a vast selection of different lengths, lies, weights, shafts, grip sizes, etc, because the mass production assembly line couldn't handle these demands, not to mention the huge inventory needed and resulting inventory nightmare for the store selling them, and the knowledgeable staff needed to properly fit and build them from scratch for each individual customer. BEFORE you get misled by a $50 million per year marketing campaign, allow me to give you a free, 15 minute, no obligation, clubfitting demonstration before you decide where to buy...at the very least you will learn a few things.
